Ahhhhhhh, the "Heee'Doh" in Negril, Jamaica!! No better place I could think of to review and photograph the upcoming Motorola (code name Canary) possible RaZr II cell phone. This device is yet un-announced and was broken by me on this site alittle over a month ago now. It is a Quad Band, EDGE (Extended Data over GPRS Evolution) Cell Phone with a 2.0 MegaPixel Camera/Video, 17mb of internal memory and supporting up to 1GB (currently) of external storage via a tiny Micro SD (TransFlash Compatible) Memory Card. It has Bluetooth of the 2.0 Version it appears supporting Stereo Bluetooth (A2DP profile) and Remote Control functions (AVRCP profile), High Quality Video of the 352 X 288 resolution, full phone book with street address, voice dial, calander, 3-D Java Games, internet browser and Java Media Player.



But what really sets this "Bird" apart from the rest of the cell phones floating around is its "Pure Design". Simple, straight forward, uncluttered and encased in a "Glass Like" Colored Mirror with matching colored keypad..... the highly reflective mirrored surface draws instant "What is That??" comments from stander's by and admiring and covetous looks from those who hold it in their hands!! Two Thirds the width of a RaZr with the same thinkness and length the Canary is a Double Mint Gum sized phone in the Spirit of the Old Vader 3682 but thinner...... The back of the phone is metal with a rubberized coating and the feel of the Black PeBl phone. Black RaZrs are so Yesterday........ if your a "Bleeding EDGE" P.I.M.P.!! Or..... you surf the "Howie Frogman Forums".....



The "Glass"...... my Canary is Dark Blue but there are other colors to be sold with different colored keypads..... Although the "Mirrored Surface" is certainly a beautiful design and a treat for the sense of sight..... it absolutely hates to be touched by anything not gloved in velvet or satin....... oh, those unsightly fingerprints???



The keypad is a much smaller version of the RaZr and seems smaller than I remember the SlVr.... it is very easy to press the D-Pad and hit the wrong key or a center number and actuall input one of the numbers to the side....



At the botton of the phone an attractive grill for the speaker is a new design from Motorola that I really like. Gives the Canary an almost "Automotive" appearance in the spirit of a Exotic Car like a Bentley......



Compared visually with my other "Bleeding EDGE" phones..there is no comparison in which device is more "Striking to the Eye"!! No Question About It????? The Motorola Canary is one Fine Piece of "Eye Candy"!!





With the exception of the design, materials, and size, the upcoming Motorola Canary is almost identical in button and keypad layout.



The main difference is the small size of the kaypad as well as the fact that it is slightly "convex" in shape instead of perfectly flat like the RaZr. I assume that this is an attempt to make it more difficult to hit the wrong key due to the small size of the kaypad. I just like the way it makes the light dance off the colorized board....







The super thin profile still keeps the volume button and Smart Key on the same side as the RaZr....



The "voice dial" button is on the opposite side.....



And the entire back of the cell phone is a rubberized metal like the PeBl...





The Canary's Mini-USB plug is now located on the opposite side from the RaZr and has a cover to protect from the sand of a Jamaician Beach.....



One of the biggest improvements to this new model compared to the RaZr is it's support of Micro SD Memory Cards of up to 1GB at present time...



The battery cover must be removed and the memory card is inserted just above the slot for the SIM card....



Your gonna need that size memory for your music library when using your New Canary with some Stereo Bluetooth Headsets like my NextLink "Spider" and my favorite Sony Ericsson HBH-970 "WalkMan" Headsets (See my review on these Kick ASS headphones in the Bluetooth Forum)....



Course, if its all about "P.I.M.P.'N" ..... then you definitely will want to carry your Motorola H5 "Mini-Blue" Headset with your Canary for that Matching Glass & Metal Style!!....]




As you can see the H5 and the Canary have a shared design and material that gives the appearance of glass and yet is tough as metal...





Now, the Next Big Hardware upgrade is the larger 2.0 MegaPixel Camera and High Resolution Video camera...


















and the very, very good high quality video of 352 X 288 resolution. My Proto will only record 1 minute of video at this resolution before automatically stopping and defaults back to the "medium" video setting of 176 X 144 once you exit the application...

Yes, nothing like sitting naked on a beach with beautiful women surrounding you.... some ugly ones to...but thats when you focus on the water and the sky..... hehe...



The beaches in Negril are the best in Jamaica in my opinion and I've been to all of them along the coastline. Negril is as far west as you can go and truely a gorgeous sight....









Staying at the Hedonism II is like a trip to an Adult "Disney World"..... from enjoying wind surfing, scuba diving, jet skiing, as well as the "Nude Pool"..... it can all be experienced at the Heee'Doh...




Macro on the Canary is not very good at this time..maybe a firmware upgrade will make it a bit more acceptable but get a real camera like the Sony Ericsson K790i with Macro and Auto Focus for the real shots....

The "Naked Slide"..... yep, I saw most of the people there slide down this Monster water slide sans swim suit.... fat ugly and naked.....no one cares..... lest no one complained to me.... Beautiful fit and naked..... no one .... ah hemm... yeah, everyone looks!!

While at "Rick's Cafe" in Negril, famous for its "Cliff Diving" I was using the Canary to shoot some photos when the Diver's there... "The Bird Man" and "CraZy Tigg'R" saw it and came over to check it out.. Turns out that they are phone crazy and P.I.M.P.s to Boot!! "Bird Man" wants the Sony Ericsson K790 but "CraZy Tigg'R" says its the Canary for him!!!!... Watch the incredible video of these 2 professional divers putting on their show at Ricks.... How small is the Motorola Canary????? Well, for those of you who remember me when I actually Made Unreleased Motorola Handsets a Exciting and Fun thing to watch and learn about on the "Howie Girls Club Forum" some years ago will recognize this V70 ProtoType...... yep, I keep the really good ones!!.....



The V70 was an extremely small and light cell phone.... a beautiful design but even at its introduction a pretty much feature less phone. In fact I gave it a harsh critical review at that time proclaiming my new T68i with 256 color screen, Bluetooth and MCA-20 VGA camera attatchment the wave of the future amid tons of Idiot "Howie Forum" sissy's telling me that people wouldn't want a camera with a cell phone and that bluetooth was a novelty as well with no real future!! Bunch of DumbAsses on that Forum then.... thank God they are still with the Motorola Idiot Supreme Mod HF11 now.... but I digress.......







The Canary continues this same tradition and weighs in at a "Light as a Feather"..... 3.6 onces...



Now, compared to my other "Bleeding EDGE" Tiny Phones....thats the lightest in class ..... even lighter than the Qtek 8500.....



Now I still have my ProtoType RaZr that I broke news of years ago....long before you could get it commercially..but the New Qtek 8500 is the evolution of this form factor to a SmartPhone Pinnicle.... almost completely identical in diminsions to the RaZr... compare the size of the Canary Yourself....



















Now throw in a Sony Ericsson K790i 3.2 MegaPixel Camera Phone for a little "Bleeding EDGE" Menage'a Trois....















All these phones will support the "Stereo Bluetooth" profile and work with the new upcoming bluetooth stereo headsets...




What a "Bleeding EDGE" P.I.M.P. carries on a trip to the Beach..... "The Essentials"..... a Great Cigar, A Excellent Wind Proof Lighter...... and plenty of backup!!



Cause you never know what might be wet & cold and in need of a little warmth?????

Lindsy I would have no idea. At this time Motorola hasn't even announced that this phone exists.... so any plans on its release are completely speculation. I have another un-announced handset and it is not nearly as finished and "commercial" as the Canary. My unit is just like a brand new phone, the hardware and the fit/finish are perfect. From that standpoint, it could go on sale tomorrow and everyone would love it.

However, there are still a few firmware bugs, bluetooth problems with the stereo playback and other issues related to menus and settings. All of these will be solved with a firmware development and are nothing of a serious nature. The phone is alittle laggy sometimes, particularly when viewing photos but operation in general is very good with phone performance being excellent!!

The only problems I am experiencing with the phone is the very small size and sometime incorrect data input on the keypad... and I have very small fingers for a guy.... this thing is "tiny" as well as the horrible effect it has on my OCD.... God DAMN!! SomeBody hand me a bottle of Windex!!! I can't get rid of these FINGER PRINTS!!!!!!

Thanks....more photos to come including the Qtek 8500 and its camera video performance. No, Canary uses the same Mini-USB as the RaZr and is a micron thicker than the Qtek 8500 because of this.... Are you missing your Qtek yet??

Well, it was the last choice among most of the people in Jamaica vs. the Canary and K790i. Seems most of the people there don't really understand the "Windows" Smartphone thing.... took awhile to explain it was not a RaZr re-design and that it was a very sophisticated device. But, women all loved the Pink and a guy or two who knew about Windows Mobile understood how special the operating system was.

Truth is though, the Canary was the first phone people wanted to hold. Everyone in Jamacia loves the Motorola RaZr and there are many of them there. So, it was natural that they all wanted to see the new RaZr.... plus.... it practically emits its on "Sun" from the reflections cast off of its mirror..

IMHO They represent different phone concepts

I think it should be compared to the Nokia 8801...
They share common fingerprints
And, regarding "tech specs", the nokia would fall way beyond ??, but not in stile...

Nice review! now i really wanna get one like right now lol. Your pictures are very exceptional! I have a slvr now and probably wanna get rid of it because the SLVRL7c just got annouced for sprint, meaning everyone will have one now.(Sprint = easy to get a contract with the worst credit in the world) Lemme know if u get a hold of another one BB, or know where to get one, i'd buy one in an instant!

The only other question i have is i noticed the menu / gui is just like the one in the V3x/3GRazr, does that mean there is a nvidia GoForce video board in the canary?!
