BengalBoy.Com News Flash!! HTC Athena (X7500), HTC Vox (S710) & UpComing HTC Cavalier S630 Revealed!!

Damn I'm Good, I was just talking with Da'Mob Man about how the Pocket PC was dying and wouldn't be around in 2-4 years,,,, and I be DaMn!! Here comes the HTC Athena!! Watch Out "Bleeding EDGE" P.I.M.P.s, a new Crown Jewel is on its way to be lusted after by all the "Bleeding EDGE" P.I.M.P.s who see it. A evolution of the the Pocket PC and the UMPC is finally occuring and the HTC Athena (X7500) is the first attempt by HTC at this new type of device similar to the OQO and other UMPC's coming to market.

Be the First to Get a New Athena, Vox or Cavalier by Contacting Mobility Man at www.Smart-Mobile-Gadgets.Com !!

With a 400mHz processor and detatchable QWERTY Board I'm excited to see the further specs coming out on this device. Currently I'm told it is going to be Tri-Band Euro 3G with no current North American varient in the works. A 2.0 MegaPixel camera with Macro and Flash, as well as a significant ROM memory increase to 250mb. What I'm told to date....

HTC Athena specifications. (Subject to Change or P.I.M.P. Error)

• Microsoft Windows Mobile 5 PPC PE
• 3.5 inch, QVGA TFT LCD, touch screen
• Memory: ROM 256 MB/ RAM 64 MB
• AP: Samsung, 400 MHz
• Wireless WAN
o GSM/GPRS tri-band 900/1800/1900 MHz
• Bluetooth
• Wireless LAN 802.11 b/g
• Camera: 2 mega pixels with macro lens
• MiniUSB, USB 1.1
• Expansion: SDIO/MMC

HTC Athena (X7500)...

"Bleeding EDGE" HTC Athena Revealed!!

Thanks to "The Insider" for providing me with the photos..... I've already got "Da'Mob Man" on this one guys...... Meet the Next "Motorola MPx Frenzy" Device!!

Thats the stylus coming out at the top right of the photo. This would be top left of the device if you are holding it in a "Portrait" position as a phone or in touch screen mode...

The Athena will apparently ship with a special case designed for it and the keyboard. More of a "unit" instead of a "case", I don't think that you will want to carry or use it without the case. It just looks more functional and less of a "protection" ensemble...

I don't know about the rest of you, but, the screen looks larger than 3.5 inches to me.... its hard to get scale on it in these photos....

Call/End buttons at bottom center, unidentified button/mouse??? At top....

LED lights for power/low battery, bluetooth and "Harddrive Activity"???? Could it be???

Proper stylus and thin profile....

Camera and flash. Flash appears to be a true flash and not just a LED light....

Power button on the side bottom, unidentified key at front, most likely "end video call" button...

The Detatchable KeyBoard, looks good...... whether continuous use will cause connectivity problems with the circuit board connectors is a concern...

The Athena uses a large 3.5 inch QVGA screen for display duties... Thats the "video cam" at top right (Top of the Device) with phone "Call/End" on the middle left "Bottom" of the device. One thing I'm missing ,,,, and would have bet money would be there ,,,,,, is the "Mouse" from the HTC 3600 (Artemis) that seems such a natural piece of hardware for this device. Is the "camera like" hole at the top left (bottom of device) a mouse???

And a detatchable QWERTY board for a better=larger keys (more laptop like) data entry option.

While using the same processor found in the current HTC TyTn and offering the same basic hardware found in the current HTC Universal, the Athena, although still very much a Pocket PC OS device,,,,, is clear evidence of the migration from the traditional Pocket PC devices to a larger UMPC form factor. As technology in battery/processor performance improves, watch as this first generation evolves hardware into the upcoming form factor. Soon,,,,,with the SmartPhone edition devices running Windows Mobile, you will see a 2 device household.... the small phone for the light every day carrier and the UMPC device for business and travel. The "Palm Top" is almost here for real!! I am very excited to see what CES in Vegas is showing for UMPC's and hopefully I'll be able to see or find more information about the Athena while I'm there.

HTC Vox (S710)...

The Vox HTC S710 is an alternative in form factor to the current HTC S620 ExCaliber. With a candy bar form factor and slide out QWERTY a'la HTC WiZard, TyTn and Herald..... lets hope its spring loaded like the Herald. Personally, with the upcoming HTC S630 below arriving soon, I guess there are some people who will buy this phone just too be different....but I really don't see the point in going candy bar with slide out keyboard vs. candybar with built in QWERTY when the specs of the S630 are so much more "Bleeding EDGE". I guess HTC thought they should make one for the "Howie Forums" crowd??

"Howie Vox Sucks,,,a'hem,, Specs"

HTC Vox S710 SMARTPHONE
• Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone
• 2.4 inch, QVGA TFT LCD
• Dimensions 100 x 50 x 18mm
• Memory: ROM 128 MB/ RAM 64 MB
• Wireless WAN
o TI OMAP 850, 200 MHz
o EDGE/ GSM/GPRS quad- Microsoft band 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
• Bluetooth
• Wireless LAN 802.11 b/g
• Camera: 2 mega pixels
• MiniUSB, USB 1.1
• Expansion: MicroSD
• Semi-automatic sliding QWERTY keyboard

If your like the "Howie Forums" crowd and need that extra $100 that will probably seperate the VOX from the S630 for your monthly supply of acne/baldness medication..... I guess owning last years technology ain't so bad as a face full of zits or a head so shiny you can send SOS signals with it at Midnight!!

HTC Cavalier (S630)...

An upgrade to the HTC Excaliber the upcoming Cavalier with All World 3G support just like the TyTn, Quad-Band with EDGE,,, the S630, looks basically the same cosmetically. However, under the hood it is now sporting a SamSung 300mHz processor, the same one I raved about in the HTC MeTor.... and a 2.0 Mega Pixel camera as found in the current TyTn, Artemis, Trinity and my most recent HTC Herald. The current ExCaliber is my Weapon of Choice as a Road Warrior and the reason I've pronounced the Pocket PC a dead device in my "Road Warriors" comparison review. Idiots like Dave Evans still hold to the Pocket PC out as a superior device, but the HTC S630 will do everything almost that a TyTn will do and will do it in a much smaller and pocketable form factor. Its Da'Shit and my #2 "Most Wanted" convergence device on the HoriZon!! Look for it to be available shortly....

ReMember!! For the Latest "Bleeding EDGE" Devices from HTC....... Call Mobility Man at www.Smart-Mobile-Gadgets.Com,,, Don't Waste Your Time on a Mad Monkey in a Tree!!

Specs sound great, just hate to carry around the keyboard. Prefer mine to be attached. The Vox looks interesting. I have to agree that the cavalier does sound nice. Looking forward to seeing them.

Remember Indiglo, everyone "HATED" the ExCaliber from photos.. too fat.... to plain...etc... You really don't know what to think until you see one of these in person. As for the keyboard, same thing. I have found HTC to be a really good copier of interesting designs with the ability to improve and make it better. Just look at your new Herald.... that spring came from the Motorola Slider and Sony Ericsson W850 phones. The Build Quality and the Material work continues to impress with each new design. I recall everyone thought the Universal strange and too big... but ... its still the PIMP'st design going in the "Bleeding EDGE" device shootout. I'm sure HTC has a very elegant and simple solution for storing the keyboard..... time will tell??

I think the Athena will be just what I expect it to be.... the "Flag Ship" in design & performance for HTC. Would be great to see it in person at CES.... maybe it will be there and I can get a photo with a Kitten for you???

Your right on waiting to see what it looks like. I thought the Herald in its pictures was just average looking. Having one in my hand I just love the look.

I forgot about the CES show next month. To bad it wasnt this month or in November. I have been on a long vacation and January is where its all going to catch up to me. Mark, I know you are good for pictures and if the Q7 isnt released yet hopefully it will be there. Still waiting for this headset to be released.

Check out Cesweb.org for a list of Vendors there. I will be arriving on Wednesday, Thursday is the last day of CES and will be my only "real day" there. The weekend is reserved for the AVN show and Video Awards!!

If NextLink is there on Thursday I'll be sure to get by its stand. Won't be the same folks though.... so I won't be VIP'ed like I was in the past.
